Bridge day.

Lara does battle in her mind.

sunny 14 °C

We packed up and got out early this morning. It's suprising the amount of work it is just to get out of camp and on the bikes in the morning up at 6:30 and out at 8:30. Again the roads were narrow and busy all day, the marking event was a 75 year old bridge "deception pass" which as Lara describes was half a mile up barely 2 lanes wide with no shoulder, a 21inch side walk and dental floss protecting bikers from falling or squashing, it was hell. I would describe the bridge as a trip highlight!! A two stage bridge at least 200 feet up, divided in the middle by a tiny island as high as it is wide. The two 700 foot spans were steel construction and stairs were bult from the bridge so you could walk off one side, under the bridge, and to the other. When we figure out how to post pics you'll see!! After the bridge we had a nice 30min ferry ride to Port Townsend. A quaint town by the sea with cute shops on a board walk style street. Here we stayed at a state campground that was in an old WW2 army base on the water, very cool. We taxied into town that night to do grocerie and have pizza. The grocery store was a jumbo health food store with lots of fresh produce, coolest grocery store ever. We enjoyed our stay in this town and we will miss it but this is a touring trip!!
